As Yachts are to boats, so is Dunhill’s luxurious Royal Yacht Mixture to your run-of-the-mill tobacco blend. Select Virginias are carefully conditioned to bring out their inherent sweetness, and are then added to rich, heavier, and cooler Virginias to bring balance to this full-flavored blend. A subtle flavoring is added to the final blend to enhance the subtle and piquant aroma.

When I lit up the bowl, I was immediately transported back to my great grandfathers presence. This is definitely old school pipe tobacco. It produced billows of smoke without effort. Full and rich, a bowl of this is a meal. It is meaty with a hint of sweetness. Sit down relax, I enjoy a cup of coffee with it. The room note on this one is interesting. Slightly sweet and intense tobacco smell, not too unlike the tin.

Like others, I too noted the spice that comes on after it gets about a third through the bowl. It is not powerful but it is there. On the advice of the other reviews I lit mine in my H.I.S. Churchwarden. A perfect choice for this mix. I did not dry mine, I put it strait into the bowl from the tin. It light the first time, and did not even go out after the false light. Everyone should have a tin of this squirreled away and one next to your pipes.

I’ve enjoyed a few bowls of this now. Don’t be fooled by the description which claims mellow: there’s a peppery kick in it after it warms up, reminiscent of perique. For me, this is a good blend for a church warden or a cooler smoking pipe.

Very pleasant blend to puff on, as it requires little effort to get a whole lot of smoke out of it. Typicall figginess and sweetness of a virginia, with a topping that many aren’t able to describe. I believe it to be some kind of liquor topping. It is unique and delicious. This is the pipe tobacco that Stalin famously smoked.
