Bell’s Three Nuns tobacco is a historic blend of Virginia and Kentucky tobaccos. Earlier versions of the recipe included a touch of Perique, but the current rendering features only sun-cured and dark-fired tobaccos mixed with Brazilian light leaf to create a unique and mellow blend not lacking in maturity. A true classic.

The first one says “A nice leaf for a pint”.
The second responds “Aye, pity it’s no the same though”

And that sums it up well. It’s nice, not the classic for which it is known as. Great for a pint or to sit by the fire. Not a everyday smoke in my opinion. Weekly or bi weekly smoke. I could have two bowls in a row and not touch it for weeks.

As for the tin note, it’s spicy and nutty. The tobacco smoke how it smells, which I prefer. Since perique is no longer present, you cannot classify this as a VA/PER. It’s more of a VA/KY tobacco.

Now why I’m giving this 3 stars. It’s not a classic anymore when you change the recipe. It’s a new take on an old classic. I was dissapointed with the price. It should be about 3 dollars less. It’s like buying a ford with a Cadillac emblem stuck on it. If this were the original recipe I can see the three dollar difference.

In conclusion. A good Kentucky/Virginia blend, not a classic Virginia perique blend. I will not purchase this again unless the recipe is changed back to the original.

By far my favorite tobacco. Tried it for the sake of curiosity, and now none of the others I try suit me quite like this one. I have tried Nightcap, Dunhill 965, and even the renowned Dunhill flake and they simply don’t compare. Such a full flavor, and smooth through the entire smoke I couldn’t recommend one more highly than this.

I have to be honest. The reason I purchased this tobacco had nothing to do with any knowledge of the taste and quality. I just had to smoke C.S. Lewis’ favorite blend. I went into my first bowl with muted expectations, however I was pleasantly surprised. This is truly a delicious Virginia. Each layer of the bowl revealed more flavor and subtle smoothness. Turns out C.S. Lewis knew a little about tobacco as well. Thank you Clive.
